As a service to the community, the Nat Moore Foundation provides the following information and links to scholarship providers and college resources available to South Florida’s high school students. 

The organizations highlighted below operate independently from the Foundation. Application deadline dates and event dates may change annually. Contact the sponsors for the most recent dates.

Broward County
The BRACE Program (www.broward.k12.fl.us/studentsupport/guidance/brace/Default.htm

Unique to the Broward County School System, the BRACE program works with guidance counselors to provide students with information on Scholarships, Financial Aid and the College Application Process. Advisors can also provide information on Technical Schools, Military Options and Direct Workforce Entry.

Provides advise on how to overcome obstacles for attaining college entrances, including scholarship information. Site was created by first generation and other under-represented college students.

National Association for College Admission Counseling (www.nacacnet.org)
Provides college resources for students, including sponsoring college fairs that are listed on the website.

Scholarship Help (www.scholarshiphelp.org)
Provides college and scholarship resources.

Take Stock in Children (www.takestockpalmbeach.org)
This is a statewide mentoring/scholarship program. The program enrolls middle school, low-income students and helps them succeed by providing college and vocational scholarships, volunteer mentors, student advocates, early intervention and long-term support.

Weekly paper and website written by teens for teens. The site hosts listings of scholarships.

List of approximately 100 scholarships offered.  Each scholarship fund has its own criteria.  Unless otherwise noted, scholarships are based on financial need.  By completing the Common Application, applicant will be considered for any fund that is available and for which he/she fits the criteria.

Scholarship America is a national education service organization that mobilizes support for students getting into and graduating from college. The organization provides scholarships, administers scholarships and provides resources for graduating students.

Scholarships.com (www.scholarships.com)
Helps students find the money they need to get a college education. This is one of the largest free and independent college scholarship search and financial aid information resource on the Internet. Students are able to search by various categories. Scholarships.com also administers its own scholarship competitions, offering fourteen distinct college-funding opportunities worth a total of $18,000.

ITWomen Charitable Foundation

Supports the mission of ITWomen to increase the number of women earning information technology and engineering degrees. Graduating female high school seniors in South Florida who plan to earn college degrees in Technology and Engineering of the STEM academic strand are eligible to apply for these four-year academic scholarships.

Held in October at Miami Science Museum and Emma Lou Olson Center in Pompano Beach
College scholarship fair of more than 30 colleges and universities in Florida and out of state, including a number of historically black universities. Targets minorities but is open to all. Some institutions will accept students and award full or partial college scholarships at the fair. Students must bring a resume, school transcript, two letters of recommendation and SAT and ACT scores. Free. Online registration recommended.

Horatio Alger Scholarship

Students and parents meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a wide range of national and international, public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities. Participants will learn about admission requirements, financial aid, course offerings and campus environment.

DECEMBER 

Scholarship Opportunities
George W. Jenkins Scholarship at the University of Miami www.miami.edu/index.php/ug/scholarships/jenkins/
Deadline: December 1
Nomination must be completed by college guidance counselor.
Established in honor of Publix founder George W. Jenkins. Through his perseverance, Jenkins was able to establish the largest employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States. The George W. Jenkins Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens who are high school graduates from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee with strong academic credentials, significant financial need and a history of overcoming adversity. This four-year scholarship is awarded to students based on academic merit, financial need and an essay that demonstrates a personal history of overcoming adversity. The award includes tuition and fees, on-campus room and board, books and supplies and a $1,500 stipend per semester. At UM, that totals more than $50,000 annually. Student must be enrolled full-time at the University of Miami.
